Only a couple of weeks ago when Sony issued firmware updates for many of their lenses, Sony today has released firmware updates for many of their popular mirrorless cameras. The updates mainly address issues with overheating as well as fixing the “star eater” problem that was introduced in a prior firmware version, as well as various other stability issues. Basically, the star eater issue involved the Sony cameras’ noise reduction algorithms incorrectly identifying stars in the night sky as noise, and as a result, removed them in images. It’s not a luxury anymore to expect travelling with a small camera kit that weighs less than 5 pounds such as a mirrorless camera. It’s also not unthinkable that such a camera can produce photographs worthy of a National Geographic photographer and then returning home with all of the post-processing works done in-camera and ready to be printed or posted to your blog and social media.
