In a mysterious teaser video released by DJI today, the Chinese manufacturer is likely about to launch its newest drone. The video does not include a lot of details. Along with the video, DJI has sent out invitations for an “Adventure Unfolds” event on January 23, 2018.
Entitled “Adventure Unfolds,” the video explains that we are all “billions of atoms and molecules bonding together in harmony” but that “with seemingly insignificant size comes formidable strength and power.”
The video concludes with: “The question is, ‘Are we ready for what’s to come?’”
#AdventureUnfolds – DJI’s New Drone
Adventure Unfolds is the tagline for DJI’s latest drone. We only have the fleeting glimpses of the new drone in the video below but “unfold” is an obvious reference to the fact that this will be a folding drone. The only current drone in their line-up that is comparable is the Mavic Pro.
I would predict that next Tuesday’s announcement will be another iteration of the Mavic, and definitely more sophisticated than the “Platinum” that launched back in August 2017. The focus on “adventure” makes me think that this evolution of the Mavic Pro will not only be foldable but it will also be sturdier and weather-resistant.
I have been looking forward to a new drone from DJI for many months. I own the DJI Mavic Pro but I’m not happy with the quality of photos that it produces. I’m hoping for a new drone that is small, robust and foldable like the Mavic Pro but with the camera that the Phantom 4 includes.
The video gives us two clues: 1) “Adventure Unfolds” and 2) the silhouette of an aerodynamic device that may well be a new streamlined version of the Mavic Pro with its legs folded.

Is this announcement what I have been waiting for? After reading multiple news sites, tweets, and other blogs, I am speculating that DJI might be announcing a new “Mavic Air” drone, which would be a successor to the company’s existing ultraportable Mavic Pro model that would be smaller, faster, and lighter.
